and Specialty Eye Tests

OCT Test

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT): An OCT is a specialised piece of equipment that is specifically designed to measure the thickness of transparent tissue (usually the light detecting tissue at the back of your eye, your retina, but also the window at the front of your eye, the cornea). It has become invaluable in the detection and management of glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and many other eye problems.

Retinal Imaging/Photography

Retinal imaging takes a digital picture of the back of your eye. It shows the retina (where light and images hit), the optic disk (a spot on the retina that holds the optic nerve, which sends information to the brain), and blood vessels.Retinal imaging helps us to check for eye disease such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma and retinal toxicity.

Diabetic Eye Examination

A diabetic eye examination involves dilating the pupil (or widening the window in your eye) with drops and carefully examining all structures of the eye. We’re especially checking for possible damage to the retina.

Your eyes will be photographed and an OCT scan of the back of your eye may be recommended. We will then develop a plan to reduce the risk of, or progression of, eye disease. You may also need a referral to an ophthalmologist if significant diabetic eye disease is already present which may reduce your vision for treatment.

Driver Vision Assessment

All of our optometrists are capable of completing a driver vision assessment to test your vision acuity and complete the necessary medical certificate.

Contact Lens Examination

A contact lens examination is completed to find out if contacts are suitable for your eyes. There has been a big change in contact lens technology over the past few years, meaning now that almost anyone who wears spectacles could wear contact lenses. We will be able to determine which form of contact lens will suit you and your lifestyle best!

Visual Field Testing

A visual field test measures the strength of your peripheral vision. That is, your vision to the sides, above and below your area of focus. This test can be conducted by the optometrists or by our trained staff, and usually takes around 3-5 minutes per eye.

Glaucoma Testing

A comprehensive check for glaucoma involves looking at your optic nerve, both clinically and perhaps with a scan of your optic nerve with an OCT (if indicated), as well a check of your eye pressure. A side vision test or visual field test (automated perimetry) may also be recommended.

Every person over 40 should be screened for glaucoma every 2 years. If you have been advised that you have a higher risk or have a family member with glaucoma you should be screened more regularly as advised by your optometrist.

Vision Perception Testing

Visual perception is different from problems involving sight or sharpness of vision. Difficulties with visual processing affect how visual information is interpreted, or processed by the brain.
